In between film roles, aside from appearing in some TV adverts and a few bit parts, Earl threw himself into various acting classes and drama workshops, including training towards gaining qualifications with LAMDA and a weekly drama class which he began in 2004.
In November 2005 Earl’s mother Pauline, who still spends hours trawling through websites looking for auditions and forthcoming film castings, came across an audition in Wales for short film Kill The Kings. Earl drove to Cardiff, spent the day auditioning, and then drove the six hour journey home again. His dedication to and love for acting has always meant that Earl will travel any distance, in Britain or abroad, and he got the second biggest speaking part in the Welsh set film, so spent several days filming in the Welsh valleys. Earl looks forward to working with Rish Mustaine of Flat Planet Films on future projects and enjoyed his experiences with the film company.
A 60 second film featuring just Earl practising yoga sequence Saluting the Sun was Earl’s next project, which took twelve hours to film in a freezing cold warehouse, after training for five weeks to get his body in top condition and to learn the moves for the film, also named Saluting the Sun. this was filmed in January 2006 and was the work of passionate director/producer Roopinder Buhlar.
A local friend informed Earl of Norwich based aspiring film maker, Paul Desira’s pursuit to create a gangster style short that he’d already written and was casting for in Earl’s home city. Earl saw this as a great opportunity and auditioned for the lead role, which at the time, Paul had narrowed down to two possible actors. On meeting Earl on the day of his auditions he changed his mind and ended up giving him the lead role of Ray Carrick. Filming was squeezed into six long days and the actors worked under immense pressure. It was Earl’s biggest test to date and he revelled in the chance to show his true acting capabilities.
By this time a very important change had occurred in Earl which, strangely enough, had gone unnoticed by those close to him for some time. His stammer had all but gone. The confidence he gained through acting, teamed with his love for it had eradicated his childhood impediment and now he suffers only very rarely from stammering, and even then refuses to let it get in his way.
Another job he acquired through the Sandra Reynolds Agency was to star alongside the legendary Terry Wogan in his Children in Need 2006 advertising campaign. This drew a great deal of attention to Earl, as suddenly he found himself being recognised, not only for being a popular local boxer but also now for his onscreen appearances. When invited to the private VIP backstage party on the Children in Need night, November 17th 2006, some celebrities at the bash even spotted him as “the guy from the Terry Wogan advert”!
Earl now has several roles in films in the pipeline and even one in a pop music video, all of which he eagerly awaits the filming of. He is currently planning a trip to Los Angeles, not only to seek out new and promising contacts for his ever growing network of connections in the industry but also to expand upon his learning of different people and cultures. His early years spent travelling the country gave him a knowledge of an assortment of accents which is second to none and life experiences that were worlds apart from those of an average youngster. He is very conscious of the fact that the birth of his beautiful daughter has opened up a softer side to his nature, and obviously his regular brushes with the law and sporting history also give him a huge diversity to draw upon which is rare to find in a British actor of our time, so whilst it is fair to say that Earl has natural raw talent, the path his life has taken is true testament to what he, as a fascinating and hard working person is capable of portraying. With 100% encouragement and faith in his ambitions from his family and fiancée Jody, he is determined to achieve his dreams.
